The "Bonjour fantôme" project explores the intergenerational memory of Algerian repatriates through a theatrical stroll.
In 2024, several residencies enabled the play to be written, bringing together the author, the company Le center imaginaire, and teacher-researcher Mariana Dominguez Villaverde. The pedagogical aspect was based on multidisciplinary work with L3 LEA/EGL students: research in the Departmental Archives and the University Library, writing workshops and an introduction to civilization research. The students drew up narratives based on personal accounts and archival documents, which they then presented in a theatrical and participatory way during the study day on October 11, 2024 , entitled "Place, words and objects of exile". This staging of stories enabled them to actively question the ways in which memory is transmitted. The pedagogical objective was to raise students' awareness of the memory of exile through artistic, historical and social approaches.
The aim was to present different projects (associative, research, institutional, artistic) and professional practices on the question of exile and forms of memory transmission. The presentations were aimed at a wide audience, with a view to popularizing the subject.
The day ended with a presentation by writer Amina Damerdji of her latest work Bientôt les vivants (Gallimard, 2024), in collaboration with the Valence bookshop L'étincelle.
All participants and members of the public, including students, had the opportunity to share the day's various moments together, between art, testimony, science and institutions, and offer very diverse points of view on the question of memory and its expression in the public space. Each stage of the day was a kind of "mise en abime" of this dialogue which articulated our day. At the end of the day, the students had to produce an oral and written production in Spanish, as part of the Spanish civilization course.
Work on the play will continue in 2025 (staging the text, etc.) and the tour is scheduled for 2026.
