L2 and L3 LLCER Spanish students took part in a meeting with Chilean poet Patricio Rojas Sanchez. The event was organized in partnership with the Maison de la poésie Rhône-Alpes-Auvergne, where the poet was also taking part in an evening devoted to Chilean poetry.
Both the meeting with the students and the evening at the Maison de la poésie provided an opportunity to present the Anthology of Chilean Poetry, organized by Patricio Rojas Sanchez and published by the Maison de la poésie magazine Bacchanales (no. 65).
The Regards croisés course is devoted to "culture in the Chilean road to socialism", and shows the importance of arts and culture (literature, cinema, theater, mural painting, poetry, song, "arpilleras"...) in the social construction of Chile in the 70s, to better demonstrate the specificity of Chilean socialism and its political stakes. The exchange with Patricio Rojas Sanchez on poetry and poets of the period, on the different key historical moments of the period and on his own experience, was therefore a great contribution to their reflection and discovery of this important moment in Chilean history.
The L2 students worked on reading literary texts aloud, which is a way of working not only on pronunciation, intonation andexpressivity , but also on understanding and appropriating the texts. This work, which also enabled us to work on the notion of focalization in narrative texts, was also used to prepare for the reading of a selection of poems by Patricio Rojas Sanchez by way of thanks. It was a very moving moment for both the poet and the students.
The outcome of the meeting and the preparatory activities around it was very positive. This kind of activity brings students closer to the experience and actors of culture and history, encouraging them to anchor their knowledge in reality.
