M2 LEA RESET students - Field trip to the Grenoble Museum and discovery of Street art works
Guided tours in Spanish: "Nature, environment and visual culture. From museum to urban art". Urban tour Street art and Grenoble museum
As part of the Environment and interculturalityMaster 2 LEA RESET (Resources, Environment and Societies in Transition) students took part in an end-of-semester field trip organized by their teacher Marion Le Corre-Carrasco.
This tour, designed after six lecture sessions, explored two artistic universes: committed street art and the collections of the Musée de Grenoble.
Pedagogical objectives
The aim of this activity was to reinforce theoretical knowledge through direct confrontation with artistic works, while developing students' critical thinking on environmental and intercultural issues. It also opened them up to different artistic expressions, enriching their general culture and their understanding of the links between art, society and nature.
Tour schedule
1. Urban exploration: street art as commitment
The first part of the outing consisted of a guided tour in Spanish of street art in the streets of Grenoble (Street Art FEST - Grenoble https://www.streetartfest.org ). The creations of international artists such as Julieta XLF, INTI, Isaac Cordal, VEKS and DULK addressed environmental themes such as global warming and the impact of humans on nature.
Students observed how these artists use a variety of techniques to raise awareness of societal causes. They analyzed the works in their urban context, using what they had learned to decipher the messages. This immersion also highlighted the role of local heritage in the influence of contemporary art.
2. Musée de Grenoble: nature and the avant-garde
The second part took place at the Musée de Grenoble, where students and their teacher followed a Spanish-language tour of nature as an artistic motif. The modern collections revealed how nature was sometimes relegated to the background in the avant-garde, to the benefit of aesthetic innovations, around Impressionist landscapes in particular (e.g. Monet).
Discussions focused on modern and contemporary works, including " Motorcycle compression "César (1970). "Belly of a Glacier"(2023) by Ohan Breiding, which directly addresses climate issues.
Pedagogical benefits
This outing offered a multidimensional approach, confronting students with two types of artistic discourse: street art, direct and accessible, and academic art, more formal. This dual perspective enriched their understanding of intercultural and environmental dynamics. The contrast between institutional art and urban expression provided an opportunity to reflect on the different functions of art in the face of environmental crises.
By mobilizing their knowledge in situ and developing their sense of observation, the students strengthened their critical thinking skills, while enhancing their practice of Spanish in an artistic context. The outing also highlighted the complementarity between theoretical university teaching and the discoveries offered by local cultural institutions.
Conclusion
This experience linked academic teaching and contemporary artistic expression, while offering an enriching exploration of Grenoble's cultural heritage. It fully achieved its objectives, strengthening students' intercultural, environmental and linguistic skills.
