Meeting with author Aroa Moreno Durán to discuss her novels

In semester 5's "Culture and Creation" course, students drew on the methodologies they had learned in the "Contemporary Spanish Literature" class and the "Methodology of the discipline: literature" TD, to design, prepare and co-host a meeting with a young novelist who has received a great deal of attention in Spain, Aroa Moreno Durán.
The students were put in a real-life situation to cultural mediation They had to give an oral presentation, in a foreign language, to a specialist audience, using the skills and methodologies they had been working on throughout the Licence course:
  • draw up a list of the novel's structuring themes, with supporting quotations and analyses
  • create a questionnaire based on key words and their personal reading of the novel
  • design the presentation of the author and her novel La hija del comunista (2017)
  • co-host the meeting
In addition, L3 and M1 LLCER students were able to gain an initial insight into research by listening to three presentations by their teacher-researchers (L. Garino-Abel, C. Orsini-Saillet and D. Crémaux-Bouche) on an aspect of the author's work, as well as a presentation by another author invited to the study day: Miguel Angel Hernandez.

The highlights of the day included discussions with the author on her personal reading of a text, the creation of a highlight for the entire license, and the development of the student's adaptability and responsiveness.

Aroa Moreno Durán is an award-winning author of novels in Spain and abroad. La hija del comunista (2017). She was awarded the premio Ojo Crítico de Narrativa. The bajamar (2022), at the time of the meeting, had just been awarded the Prix Grand Continent for the best story of 2022 likely to be read on a continental scale. Both novels are available from the UFR SoCLE Library.
