In the "Mastery of Language" course in semester 5, and building on the Culture and Creation and Regards croisés content courses, students designed, prepared and co-hosted a meeting with one of today's authors on the post-memory of ETA terrorism, Gabriela Ybarra.
Gabriela Ybarra is an award-winning author in Spain and abroad for her novel under study, El comensal (2015): Euskadi de Literatura prize (in Spanish) in 2016; Man Booker International finalist and translated into English in 2018. The novel has been adapted for film by director Ángeles González Sinde - the film adaptation will be released in 2022.
The students were put in real-life situations of oral scientific mediation for a specialist audience, in a foreign language, so as to mobilize the skills they had worked on in class and throughout the Licence :
compile a press kit on the author
create a questionnaire based on keywords related to the theme
design a presentation of the author and her novel El comensal (2015): first in writing, then orally
co-host the meeting, starting with an introduction to the author and her novel
This project has helped to develop self-confidence and self-esteem, pride, ongoing training and peer assessment.
